Verizon Wireless: my first car shoot

When I was asked to shoot a studio portrait for a Verizon Wireless print ad with McCann-Erickson, I was pumped. When I was told that the person would be standing next to a car (and that the car need to look “well-lit”), I was a touch nervous. I’m not a car photographer. I don’t pretend to be. I have a reverence for those who are.

A few days before the shoot, I took a bunch of black plexi squares into a studio and practiced. Figuring how to deal with every surface being reflective. Below is the final image and some behind the scenes stuff. I still don’t claim to be a car photographer, but I think I did pretty good for a guy who shoots people.

Gestalten Book

I was asked to contribute to a new design book called “crEATe” put out by Gestalten in Berlin. It visually explores eating, design and food culture. And investigates everything from the way we eat, the interiors and furniture of innovative restaurants and shops, industrial design and the packaging of food to branding and consumerism.

Apparently my “evolution” series fit right in to the discussion. And I was honored to have one of my favorite images from the series make the cover. You can find more info on crEATe on the Gestalten website.

Big in Poland?

I wasn’t familiar with Polish mags and didn’t realize I had Polish fans. Now I know a little more about both. Check out the online issue of Piana.
